One of Valmet Automotive’s commitments is Always Learn, which encourages continuous self-development. Marjut Urpolahti participated in training organized by the car plant, the aim of which is to support and develop individual career paths and skills. Below you can read some of her thoughts on team leader training and working at VA.

Marjut, who is training to become a team leader, wants to take advantage of the training offered by her employer

I started as an agency worker at Valmet Automotive in 2013, and now I have been working as a permanent employee for eight years. I got into the industry as a career changer, from my job as a hairdresser. My original intention was to start studying,” Marjut describes her path at VA.

Marjut has worked with both the A class and the GLC. I also have experience of working five shifts. She is currently working as a substitute with the doors and hatches in the body shop. The work in the body shop is something she enjoys and as a substitute, each day is different. However, Marjut does not exclude the possibility of working in other departments in the future.

Marjut finds the team leader training an interesting opportunity. The training provided by the employer has also been a great opportunity to get to know other employees at the plant. In an ever-changing plant, even “work teaches you” – as Marjut puts it.

Marjut, who is currently attending a team leader training course, describes the training as providing the skills to work in a managerial role and covering a comprehensive range of areas for a team leader. The training is entirely tailored for VA employees. The training includes, for example, the preparation of a development plan for the profitability of production, various personnel topics, reporting, issues related to people management and, in cooperation with HR, topics related to wages. The training also includes on-site days, where you can get to know the work of a team leader and learn about the software used, for example. The fact that each student has an assigned tutor who is a team leader also plays an important role.

“Fair, accountable and reliable, of course. A good manager is present and approachable to employees. I have had good experiences with managers during my career,” Marjut describes the qualities of a good manager.

Marjut is still open-minded about the future. Working as a team leader is an opportunity and Marjut feels that she has gained a lot of insights from the training that she can already apply to her job as a substitute. The training provides you with many different perspectives and tips for the different situations you encounter during your working day.

As part of its strategy, Valmet Automotive invests in employee development and supports individual career paths and skills. Career development is being made possible, for example, by making training opportunities available to all Valmet Automotive employees. The training courses are designed with a wide range of content and languages in mind.
