Valmet Automotive Oyj and Carrus Delta Oy announced in April their long-term partnership for the serial production of coaches at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki plant. The manufacturing agreement advances Valmet Automotive’s strategy to expand operations into new industries and supports the cooperation of Carrus Delta and Volvo Buses.

In line with its strategy confirmed in 2025, Valmet Automotive offers its advanced industrial serial manufacturing expertise not only to the automotive industry but also to other industrial sectors. Coach production fits well with this strategy, as it leverages Valmet Automotive’s strong industry expertise, built up over decades.

“We have successfully adapted to this new sector and are now ready to launch coach production in Uusikaupunki according to schedule. Our collaboration with Carrus Delta and Volvo Buses has provided our company with exciting opportunities for growth. I would like to thank the entire dedicated project team and our skilled employees for their courage in embracing this new venture,” says Valmet Automotive CEO Pasi Rannus.

Carrus Delta develops and manufactures high-quality coaches for Volvo Buses. Collaborations with Valmet Automotive enable Carrus Delta to rapidly increase its production capacity as the business grows. Production that has now started at the Uusikaupunki plant covers the serial production of single-deck buses with both diesel and fully electric powertrains. In the manufacture of these coaches, Valmet Automotive is responsible for body building, painting, and final assembly.

“Our collaboration with Valmet Automotive has proceeded exceptionally well over the past few months, first in technology transfer and now with the start of production. I am impressed by the collaboration, expertise, and project management. This partnership has been a learning experience for both companies, says Carrus Delta CEO Harri Varjonen.

The ability to launch production in just half a year is possible with Valmet Automotive’s deep expertise in process and production planning. The first coaches are scheduled to be completed at the Uusikaupunki plant before the end of 2026, after which production will gradually increase starting early next year. The manufacturing agreement will have a positive impact on employment, and with a high degree of domestic content, bus production will also create economic added value more broadly in Finland.
