Valmet Automotive has completed construction work of the new body shop dedicated for the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV manufacturing at the Uusikaupunki plant. The body shop with a total of 316 robots is the largest in Finland.

The construction work of the GLC robot body shop has proceeded on schedule. At the moment, the robots are being programmed and tests carried out to ensure fluent launch of the BIW production. The GLC body shop increases the number of robots at the Uusikaupunki plant to 600.

Valmet Automotive’s personnel and the support functions have made extensive preparations to meet the needs of the Mercedes-Benz GLC series production. The logistics of the Valmet Automotive are responsible for the subcontractor contacts and the production personnel has been trained for the new product for several months. Valmet Automotive has also started the largest recruitment campaign of its history for the Mercedes-Benz GLC production: the Uusikaupunki plant personnel will be increased by over a 1000 new workers within the next 9 months.

The series production of the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV will commence in Finland in early 2017.
