Valmet Automotive Plc and Carrus Delta Oy have signed a long-term cooperation agreement covering the serial production of coach bodies at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki plant.

The cooperation agreement is a logical and important step for both companies. It supports Valmet Automotive’s strategy to serve a widening range of industries and Carrus Delta’s expansion, growth in production capacity, and investments in new products.

In September 2025, Valmet Automotive confirmed its new strategy to offer its advanced industrial serial manufacturing expertise to other industries alongside its car manufacturing. The production of coach bodies aligns perfectly with this strategy, as it leverages the company’s strong expertise in electrification, modern production infrastructure, and efficient quality systems.

“We are excited to start cooperation with Carrus Delta, an industry-leading player in its field. The collaboration combines the best capabilities and features of two strong companies from Western Finland with long operating history. Moreover, it offers interesting opportunities for our talented people who are committed for continuous learning”, says Pasi Rannus, CEO of Valmet Automotive.

Carrus Delta develops and produces high-quality coaches in partnership with Volvo Buses. More than 75% of the products are exported to the European market.

”We have recently launched new products jointly with Volvo. These products have been very well received, including the fully electric coach to support growing demand for zero-emission transport solutions. Cooperation with Valmet Automotive will enable us to meet the growing demand from the markets”, says Petteri Vuori, CEO of Carrus Delta.

“We welcome the collaboration between Carrus Delta and Valmet Automotive for the manufacturing of Volvo branded single deck coach bodies. Carrus Delta is an important partner to Volvo since many years. This cooperation will add more flexibility and production capacity for our portfolio of sustainable products. By this we can serve our coach customers even better in the future”, says Thomas Nylund, Vice President and Head of the European business at Volvo Buses.

PRODUCTION TO START ALREADY IN 2026

Valmet Automotive and Carrus Delta will commence preparations for the start of production at the Uusikaupunki plant immediately. The first buses are scheduled to be completed at the end of 2026. The quick start of serial production is possible thanks to Valmet Automotive’s in-depth know-how of manufacturing and logistics as well as its process and quality management expertise in vehicle manufacturing.

Valmet Automotive’s production operations will be integrated into Carrus Delta processes, covering the serial production of single-decker coaches with both diesel and fully electric drivelines. The planned production will have a positive effect on employment, and the high domestic content of the buses also creates economic added value more widely across Finland.
