Fresh perspectives are an important part of developing our workplace. That’s why we offer internships and thesis opportunities for university students every year. Many of our current employees started their careers at Valmet Automotive also on this path.

This summer, we once again welcomed a group of trainees who worked across the organization in supporting specialist roles in different teams. During their time with us, they gained hands-on experience of our operations, developed their skills and took on a range of tasks as part of our teams.

What has a summer at Valmet Automotive looked like? We asked the trainees to describe their experience, and the summer was summarized as varied, educational, inspiring, and innovative. They had the opportunity to see the tangible impact of their work, take on challenging responsibilities, and be part of experiences that left a lasting impression. Some of the highlights included business trips, visits to different locations, interesting projects, and shared lunches.

Sonja – AI Management Trainee

Sonja spent her second summer at Valmet Automotive and has recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Turku, where she specializes in International Business. Having previously worked at Valmet Automotive as a PMO Trainee, Sonja returned this summer in a new role as an AI Management Trainee.

Her work has included supporting the rollout of A tools, coordinating internal AI trainings, and coordinating internal AI trainings, and developing the company’s AI strategy and community.

“The varied and challenging tasks in a new field make my work meaningful. Along the way, I’ve realized that you don’t need to know everything from the start – learning happens through asking questions, listening, and making use of different perspectives.”

Matias – Business & Sales Development Trainee

As a Business & Sales Development Trainee, Matias has spent the summer working on market analysis, business development projects, and CRM data reporting and analytics. Recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration, specializing in accounting and finance. He will continue his studies in the autumn towards a Master’s degree.

“The best part of my job has been the colleagues, the great trainee group, and the responsibility I’ve been given, which has helped me learn a great deal. Here, different teams work closely together, and it has been eye-opening to work with so many people across the organization.”

Ellen – Advanced Engineering Trainee

Ellen has spent her summer as an Advanced Engineering Trainee, working with various materials and technologies in the manufacturing industry while also supporting industrial solutions sales activities. Ellen is studying for a Master’s degree in Materials Engineering at the University of Turku, specializing in modern industrial materials and digital design.

“The best part about working at Valmet Automotive is that I’m not treated as just a summer trainee. I’ve had the opportunity to get involved in a variety of new projects, take on responsibilities that match my experience level, and receive support whenever needed.”

Mari – Sustainability Trainee

As a Sustainability Trainee, Mari has spent the summer working on climate and water-related CDP reporting, analyzes sustainability-related regulations, and contributes to supply chain analysis. She is completing her Master’s degree in the Creative Sustainability program at Aalto University and has previously studied political science.

“The best part about working at Valmet Automotive has been my colleagues, the supportive atmosphere, and the opportunity to learn new things. As part of the Sustainability team, I have had the chance to work alongside experienced professionals, which has deepened my expertise and provided valuable hands-on experience.”

Iida – Cybersecurity Trainee

Iida has spent the summer as a Cybersecurity Trainee as part of the ICT Technical Services team. Her responsibilities have included research related to the team’s areas of expertise and helping ensure that cybersecurity is considered in day-to-day operations. Iida studies Information Technology at the University of Turku, majoring in Cybersecurity.

“At Valmet Automotive, I have had the opportunity to see how cybersecurity is connected to industrial operations in practice. At the same time, I have gained a deeper understanding of how many different areas require a security perspective. Knowledge is shared openly within the work community, and support is always available.”
