Over 60 years
In late 2010, Valmet Automotive acquired the European roof systems operations of Karmann. Besides a new profitable business line, Valmet Automotive also got a huge amount of automotive knowhow and history.
Karmann, located in Osnabrück, Germany, was until 2009 the largest independent motor vehicle manufacturing company in Germany. For more than a century, the company had undertaken various roles from designing to assembling for several automobile manufacturers. Karmann is best known for its work with convertibles, starting in 1949 with the legendary VW Beetle convertible.
Today, Valmet Automotive's roof systems business line has two production facilities. The product engineering is located in Osnabrück, Germany, where also some of the roofs systems are manufactured. The facility in Zary, Poland, focuses on manufacturing. Over the last 10 years, these facilities have engineered and supplied over 1.2 million roofs to major OEMs.
Our vast experience, solid quality reputation and strong patent portfolio make Valmet Automotive an ideal partner for all new roof projects.
