Over 40 years
The first car assembled in the brand new Saab-Valmet factory of Uusikaupunki rolled out of the assembly line on November 13, 1969. The car, a Saab 96, was delivered to the president of Finland, Mr. Urho Kekkonen.
Since then, over the past 40 years the company has delivered more than 1,1 million cars to demanding customers worldwide. Car builders in Uusikaupunki have manufactured cars for Saab, PSA Chrysler, EuroLada, General Motors, Porsche AG, Garia, THINK Global, Fisker Automotive and Daimler AG.
Exactly 40 years after the delivery of the first car, in 2009, the Uusikaupunki plant started the production of two 100% emission-free electric vehicles. Thereby Valmet Automotive became one of the first companies to launch series production of electric and hybrid cars, and has a strong pioneering status in engineering and manufacturing of electric mobility.
In August 2013, Valmet Automotive started the manufacturing of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class in Uusikaupunki, Finland. The plan is to manufacture over 100,000 A-Class vehicles during 2013-2016.
